Back Bryan's Kickstarter!
I'm signing at TFAW Universal on 6/22! Preview the next Latinx Press Pod!
Don’t miss my only in-store L.A. comic signing of 2024!
I’ve got a signing at TFAW Universal from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd. I’m 99% certain this is my only comic signing of the year. I’m promoting the release of Gila Girl #1, but you can bring whatever you want and I’ll sign it for free. You can RSVP on Facebook or write it down on your calendar like an old-fashioned adult. Maybe we could get a crew together and go to Universal Studios?
Anything can happen.
Back Bandits of Batavia on Kickstarter
The writer in comics gets a lion's share of the credit. I don’t know why that is. I can’t tell you when that started. But every person is integral to the comic book making process. Bryan Valenza reached out to me in 2019 to help him bring some of his ideas to life. Thanks to Top Cow, we had success with Helm Greycastle back in 2021. But his original idea was to do an anthology of his ideas influenced by Asian mythologies. We found a partnered Fair Square Comics to bring his massive anthology to life: Beyondtopia Legends.
Today, Bryan and the team launched a Kickstarter to fund the first issue of a story featured in the anthology: Bandits of Batavia. This is a story Bryan has been dying to tell. He wanted me to co-write it with him, and I couldn’t say no to those puppy dog eyes. Ray Chou, the series editor, helped him put together this kick ass Kickstarter. Bryan called in a lot of favors and has an impressive variant cover line-up featuring Tyler Kirkham, Philip Tan, and Ario Anindito. But the meat and potatoes of the book are Bryan’s colors over Ario Murti’s amazing artwork. This is a story about underdogs, and it is being told by the distant brothers of those legends.
I told Bryan that this was his story, and I want people to know that. I’m just the host showing him to his seat at the table because this is his show. But I hope my small involvement is what tips the scale of you parting with your hard-earned dollars to make a significant contribution to the crowdfunding campaign.
Here’s a preview of the inaugural issue starring everyone’s soon-to-be favorite bandit:
